About Us

Having finished his studies in Biology at the University of Zurich Switzerland Martin Haefliger started his culinary mushroom production in a greenhouse nearby Zurich in 1984.

In 1988 this mushroom production site was the first one in Switzerland to be approved of as organic.

During the followin 18 years Mr. Haefliger became more and more experienced with the cultivation of various culinary mushrooms, such as Pleurotus, Agaricus bisporus, Pholiota nameko, Lentinus edodes and many other species not yet popular at that time.

In the year 2002 Jutta and Martin Haefliger established the company „Biofungi GmbH Switzerland“ with the aim to provide the organic food industry, organic wholesalers and retail salers with prime quality organic mushroom products.

In 2003 we founded our German company “Biofungi Germany“ with the strategic aim to hold all required permits in our own hands as well as to be able to sell our mushrooms within the European countries.

In the year 2007 the “Biofungi Germany“ company changed its legal status from being an independent personally owned company to a dependant branch office of the Swiss company Biofungi GmbH.

Our companys philosophy was and will be the import and the elaboration of high quality organic mushroom products from directly attended projects abroad. Through intense exchange and counselling of these projects we have attained a reliable cooperation and a solid base of trust with the people involved in these projects.

We therefore feel commited to our producers and their problems as well as to our customers and try to satisfy both in order to attain a win / win situation for all involved.

Our warehouse is located in the middle of Germany in Thueringen. This central location enables us to quickly distribute our products to our German and European customers.

  • All our mushrooms are stored at minus 25°C in order to prevent contaminations through insects and quality loss through moisture or enzymatic degradation. There we have large quantities on stock -normally one years supply- in order to provide our customers with the seasonal mushrooms all year around.
  • The Biofungi company is certified organic by BCS and licencee of the Bio Suisse label.
