About us
Having finished his studies of Biology at the University of Zurich
Switzerland Martin Haefliger started his culinary mushroom production
in a greenhouse nearby Zurich in 1984.
in 1988 this mushroom production site was the first one in Switzerland to be approved of as organic .
During the followin 18 years Mr. Haefliger became more and more
experienced with the cultivation of various culinary mushrooms, such as
Pleurotus, Agaricus bisporus, Pholiota nameko, Lentinus edodes and many
more exotic species.

The new trading company Biofungi GmbH
based in Bonstetten nearby Zurich was founded in spring 2002 by Jutta
and Martin Haefliger.
The main goal of this company
was the import of high quality organic, dried culinary mushrooms
originating from trustworthy projects abroad and overseas.
Searching these producers reuired
many and sometimes and tedious travels to Ecuador, China, Bosnia and
within the European countries.
Due to this close contact and with a
background of experience in mushroom production Biofungi established a
solid and deep relationship with the people working in these projects.
This results in a feeling of
responsibility towards these producers however always with a critical
eye on the quality of their products in order fullfil our promise to
our customers- good quality at a reasonable price.

In 2003 we founded our German branch
with the strategic aim to hold all required permits in our own hands as
well as the be able to sell within the European countries without
facing borders respectively delay through customs.
Our warehouse is located in the
middle of Germany in Thueringen. This central location enables us to
quickly distribute our products to our German and European customers.
All our mushrooms are stored at minus
25°C in order to prevent contaminations through insects and quality
loss through moisture or enzymatic degradation.
The Biofungi company is certified organic by BCS and licencee of the Bio Suisse label.
