The Tremella fuciformis, also called "White Fungus" or "Snow Fungus", is a very appreciated medicinal and edible fungus in Asia. Its gelatinous fruiting body has also given it its name. It is a well-known and appreciated edible mushroom and a component of many recipes for elixirs, teas and sirup. In Asia it is also used in cosmetics.
The use of the fungus to supplement daily nutrition has been documented in China for about 400 years, the first breeding successes up to the beginning of the 19th century.
